Four kanwariyas fall off bus, hurt

Jamui (PTI): Four pilgrims were injured when they fell off the roof of a bus after being hit by an overhead obstruction at the railway crossing on the Jamui-Kharagpur road in the district on Monday.

The pilgrims were hit by the overhead structure of a railway gate as the bus was passing under injuring them, police said. One of the injured, Jitendra Pandey, was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital. The other injured were Rameshwar Rai, Chhote Lal Gupta and Kailash Jha who were admitted to a government hospital in the district. The pilgrims were going from Gopalganj district to Sultanganj for pilgrimage to mark Shravani Mela.

Truck driver, cleaner dead

Motihari (PTI): Two bodies, suspected to be that of a truck driver and a cleaner, were recovered on Monday from a village under the jurisdiction of Pipra police station area in East Champaran district, police said. Acting on information by the local people, the cops from Pipra police station recovered the bodies of two men with injuries on their neck. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and efforts were on to identify the victims.

Poison allegation

Bettiah: A 10-year-old boy was caught on Monday for his alleged attempt to poison the hand pump in a school and was handed over to the police by principal of the primary school in West Champaran. The accused, Kisun Kumar, is a Class V student of Katahiya Primary School.

Rice mill order

Patna: The high court bench of Justice K.K. Mandal on Monday directed the authorities concerned not to take coercive steps against the rice mill owners for their alleged failure to give milled rice to the Bihar State Food Corporation. The bench also directed the government and authorities concerned to file their respective replies within 10 weeks. The court passed the direction on a bunch of petitions seeking quashing of FIRs lodged against them and also staying of the initiation of certificate cases for the recovery of alleged loss to the corporation.

Green fest

Patna: The zonal branch of State Bank of India on Monday organised a programme “Van Mahotasav” at its office in which children of the bank employees planted saplings. The programme was inaugurated by district magistrate N. Saravana Kumar.

Brothel drive

Patna: The state police headquarters has directed all the superintendents of police to close brothels running in their jurisdiction and initiate the process of confiscating the property of the offenders under Section 5 of the Prevention of Money Laundering (Amendment) Act, 2012.

Farmers’ protest

Patna: Farmers would stage protest in the districts on August 16 to press for their demands to support the farming community in wake of deficient rainfall in the state this year. A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Bihar Rajya Kisan Sabha on Monday.

Racket busted

Patna: A racket was unearthed for allegedly involved in leaking question papers of ITI examination and supplying answer sheets to examinees during a raid in an area falling under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station on Monday. Around 10 people, including the directors of four private ITIs operating in Munger, were arrested and 14 mobile phones, an SUV carrying photo printing machines, question papers, answer sheets, stamp seals and cash were seized.
