Conflict costs woman’s life
Darbhanga: A 55-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing his daughter-in-law and her child at Usari village under the jurisdiction of Biroul police station in the district.
The accused, identified as Bhairav Mandal, in collusion with his elder son Sushil Mandal (40) allegedly killed Rekha (30) and her daughter Sonakshi Kumari (2) on Tuesday night. The accused packed the bodies in a sack before disposing of it in a swampy area in the village. Police recovered the bodies on Wednesday. The police said a family conflict is the reason for the murder.
Barrage drowns crop
PATNA: Fresh release of around 2.46 thousand cusec of water from Gandak barrage on Wednesday submerged the newly-sown paddy crop under 21 gram panchayats of West Champaran and snapped road connection between Valmikinagar and Bagaha under the jurisdiction of Naurangiya block in the district since Wednesday afternoon. Assistant engineer of irrigation department and in-charge of the Gandak barrage Mohammad Gilani said the water had to be released due to rains that have been lashing in the area since the past three days.

PATNA: Czech Republic national Sujana Takks (45) who was intercepted by the Sashastra Seema Bal while crossing into the Indian side through Valmikinagar barrage on Tuesday afternoon was safely handed over to the Nepali authorities late on Tuesday night. Neither police nor the Sashastra Seema Bal personnel found anything suspicious from her. Bagaha superintendent of police Hari Prasad Yash said the visa of the woman, who had claimed to be living in Nepal for the past four-five months, was also found to be valid.

PATNA: JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad on Wednesday attacked BJP national president Rajnath Singh and senior leader Arun Jaitley for their comments against chief minister Nitish Kumar on the issue of Bodhgaya blast. He slammed both of them and said when terrorists attacked Akshardham temple, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has rejected inputs from the Intelligence Bureau about the attack. Prasad also termed Sushil Kumar Modi’s fast as a drama.

PATNA: President of Loktantrik Samata Dal and former member of state Legislative Council P.K. Sinha on Wednesday alleged that chief minister Nitish Kumar was involved in the Rs 4,000 crore concrete sleeper scam when he was the Union railway minister. He also alleged that CBI, which is looking into the matter, is trying to save Nitish on the instruction of the Congress party.
