Poll panel wants deputy mayor out
Ara: The state election commission has declared ward councillor Basant Singh’s election illegal and ordered his immediate removal as deputy mayor of Ara Municipal Corporation for concealing facts at the time of election. The commission has, vide an order passed on September 4, asked the district magistrate to lodge an FIR against Singh under different sections of the Indian Penal Code. Basant Singh successfully contested the municipal election on May 17, 2012, and later became deputy mayor. But a resident of Shivgunj locality, Kumar Abhisek, lodged a case alleging Singh had concealed the fact that Ara first class judicial magistrate had, on December 15, 2008, awarded him rigorous imprisonment for two years. A candidate has to declare such judgments through an affidavit but Singh overlooked it, violating Section 11(1) (g) of the Municipality Act, 2007.
One in net for daughter rape
Bihiya (Bhojpur): A person was arrested on Tuesday night allegedly for outraging the modesty of his minor daughter. Sources said the resident of Tola locality in Bihiya block used to regularly torture his 16-year-old daughter. On Tuesday night, the police were alerted by the girl's cries for help. They rushed to her house and arrested the father. An FIR was lodged on the basis of the girl's statement and the girl was sent to Sadar hospital for medical.

Dumraon: A medical team visited Dumraon sub-divisional hospital on Tuesday to inspect if the hospital qualifies for a family-friendly status. The team, led by the health department's regional deputy director, Kabindra Prasad Sinha, inspected the hospital.

Patna: A state vigilance department team on Tuesday caught Mahesh Jha, a block
education officer (BEO) of Terari block in Bhojpur district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. The department was acting on a complaint filed by a woman teacher associated with upgradation of a school in Terari.

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a block office and residential building at Hulasganj in Jehanabad. He also inaugurated two power sub-stations, a new building of the primary health centre and a school.
