Remand for meal deaths accused
Chhapra: Chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Anil Kumar Jha on Wednesday ordered a two-day police remand for Arjun Rai, the husband of Gandaman Primary School principal Meena Devi. He is one of the suspects in the midday meal tragedy that led to death of 23 children on July 16.
Meena was arrested by the police after a week and a polygraph test was conducted on her. At present, she is in Chhapra jail. Rai was absconding but ultimately surrendered before the court of the CJM on September 9.
Held for loot
Chhapra: Sunil Kumar Mahto, accused of looting Rs 1.25 crore from Daudpur was arrested on Tuesday night. The police said Mahto was the fourth person to be arrested in the case. Earlier, three accused had been arrested and Rs 40 lakh was recovered. In April this year, the money was looted from the Punjab National Bank.

Patna: Ratan Lal, a block development officer of Azamnagar in Katihar district, was thrashed by a group of people after he was caught in a compromising position with a woman in a field.

Patna: Bihar human rights commission member Neel Mani has expressed his displeasure over formation of a district committee going on at snail’s pace to look into the complaints of senior citizens.

Patna: Chief minister
Nitish Kumar on Wednesday announced that a state-of-the-art science city would be developed on 15 acres near Moinul Haq stadium in Patna. Nitish said the city would be developed at a cost of about Rs 500 crore.
Bank award
Patna: Punjab National Bank has been awarded with Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha award for its excellent performance in implementation of bank work. Bank executive director Usha Ananthasubramaniyan received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function held in Delhi recently.
Protest threat
Patna: Bihar State Cooperative Bank Employees' Association has threatened to launch a two-day agitation from September 24 to press for payment of arrear of 9th bipartite settlement with effect from November 1, 2007.
