Panel whip on illegal detention
Patna: The State Human Rights Commission, Bihar, on Thursday asked the government to suspend two sub-inspectors who allegedly implicated a Sitamarhi resident in a dacoity case last year.
Panel member Neel Mani, hearing a complaint lodged by the victim's brother, asked the government to initiate departmental proceedings against the sub-inspectors, Mihir Kumar and Mohammad Alauddin, and pay Rs 50,000 - to be realised from the sub-inspectors' salaries - as compensation to the family. The victim, Rahmat, was in illegal detention for around three weeks.
Neel Mani also asked the government to start departmental proceedings against then Sitamarhi sadar sub-divisional police officer Alok Kumar in the case.
