37 record Bagaha firing statement
Bagaha: Retired Patna High Court judge Rajendra Prasad conducted the second round of hearing in the alleged Bagaha police firing on Wednesday. Statements of 37 people were recorded in a closed-door hearing at the Valmikinagar guesthouse in Bagaha, West Champaran.
The first round of the hearing was conducted last month when 31 people had deposed before the one-member panel.
Seven persons were killed and 20 people were injured in the alleged police firing on June 24. Tharu community members and residents of Mahuawa Katharwa village are, however, apprehensive about the results of the probe, as the personnel found responsible prima facie have still not been transferred out of the district. Inspector-general (prisons) Anand Kishore, who had reached the site a day after the incident with senior police officers, had ordered the transfer of the personnel concerned.
Solar model
Patna: Greenpeace, an international NGO working for the promotion of renewable energy, on Wednesday announced a solar-powered micro-grid electricity model to illuminate the villages across the state. Making an announcement to install a self-sustainable micro-grid model, Greenpeace India’s executive director Samit Aich said it would be a first-of-its-kind rural electrification model that would illuminate the villages.
Bail snub
Patna: A Saran court on Wednesday refused to grant regular bail to Meena Devi, the principal of Gandaman Primary School in Saran district where 23 children had died after eating midday meal on July 16. The court also rejected the anticipatory bail petition of Meena’s husband, Arjun Rai, a co-accused in the case. Rai is absconding.
Judge demise
Patna: Justice Sheema Ali Khan, a sitting judge of the high court, on Wednesday passed away at Medanta hospital at Gurgaon. Justice Khan was suffering from cancer. The offices of the high court would remain closed on Thursday. Chief minister Nitish Kumar mourned the demise of Justice Khan and announced that she would be buried with full state honours.
Assets case
Patna: The state vigilance bureau on Wednesday filed a confiscation case against Ambuj Kumar, former assistant director, urban development and housing department, his wife Madhumita Verma, son Malay Nikhil and daughter Sikha. The accused are facing charge of having properties to the tune of Rs 39.09 lakh, which was disproportionate to their sources of income.
Maoist nabbed
Muzaffarpur: A suspected Maoist Suresh Paswan was arrested from Langat Singh College on Wednesday. Suresh’s name figured in an FIR lodged with Katra Police Station following his involvement in anti-national activities.
Teacher recruit
Patna: A high court bench of Justice Mihir Kumar Jha on Wednesday directed the state’s chief secretary, education department's principal secretary and director of primary education to appear on September 26 to explain the steps being taken by the state government to fill up the vacant posts of 2,413 trained primary teachers of the state.
Garbage plant
Patna: A high court division bench on Wednesday gave the state government a month’s time to install a garbage disposal plant in the capital. The court passed the direction on a petition filed by Suresh Yadav seeking direction to the authorities concerned to stop dumping garbage in Sampatchak.

Patna: The urban development and housing department received Skoch award from Skoch group for its initiative on “centralised grievance redressal system” for 141 urban local bodies in the state.
