Scientist comes first in crossword

Patna: Bangalore resident Mohsin Ahmed, a scientist working with the Indian Space Research Organisation, stood first after the third week of the Indian Crossword League, an online competition for crossword buffs.

Kishore M, also from Bangalore, came second.

The competition is being conducted by Extra-C, a Bihar-based civil society organisation. A person has to register on the website, www.crypticsingh.com, to take part in the competition.

Road protest

Ara: Villagers from Gangaha blocked the Ara-Buxar road on Friday after a speeding bus crushed a resident, Prahlad Singh, to death in the afternoon. The accident occurred in a Bhojpur village when Singh was crossing the road. The mob set the bus on fire in protest .

Foodgrain

Patna: Food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak has directed the principal secretary to personally monitor the procurement of foodgrain to be distributed among beneficiaries. He also issued a directive for the distribution of foodgrain among beneficiaries before Chhath.

ICU facility

Chhapra: An intensive care unit (ICU) was inaugurated on the premises of the Chhapra sadar hospital on Friday. Dr Virendra Kumar Upadhyaya, who inaugurated the ICU, said the facility has fulfilled a dream of the people in Saran district.

Accident

Siwan: A truck speeding on state highway 73 crushed to death Hasbul Khatun (40) and Sharda Devi (45), residents of Kauria Takht Tola village, early on Friday morning. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The driver is absconding.

Education Day

Patna: Education minister P.K. Shahi on Friday headed a meeting of the department with senior police officers over preparations for Education Day celebrations on November 11.

Bank fest

Patna: Bank of Baroda’s month-long festival focusing on micro, small and medium enterprises started on Friday.
