New monastery at Mahabodhi

Gaya: A new monastery, Indian Vietnamese Buddhist Trust, was inaugurated by Mahabodhi Mahavihara chief priest Bhikkhu Chalinda in Bodhgaya on Tuesday.

The in-charge of Indian Vietnamese Buddhist Trust Bhikkhuni U. Ngyun Thi Sung said the monastery would offer social service to the people of Bodhgaya. A 175-member delegation from Vietnam, which took part in the inaugural session, chanted prayers before the statue of Lord Buddha that has been installed on the campus.

Bhikkhuni Sung had arrived in Bodhgaya around 10 years ago and has been offering social service to the residents. Myanmar monastery in-charge U. Nyaninda and All India Bhikkhu Sangh in-charge Bhikkhu Pragyadeep were also present.

Two killed in accidents

Purnea: Two persons were killed on Tuesday in two road accidents, one at Bhawanipur police station area and other at Kasba police station area of the district, about 350km northeast of Patna. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Ram (50) and Mohammad Mustapha (26). While Santosh was a resident of Madhuban village, Mustapha belongs to Kasba area of the district.

Flesh trade

Purnea: The kingpin of a flesh racket, Rikki Devi (45), was arrested from her residence at Kushkibag near Katihar Mor on Monday night. She has been accused of forcing women into flesh trade. She was sent to Purnea Central Jail after being produced before the court on Tuesday.

Rebel in net

gopalganj: A Maoist, Vikrama Rai, from Pakha village was arrested on Monday evening. Superintendent of police Vinod Kumar on Tuesday said Rai has confessed to his crimes. On April 29 last year, Maoists had demanded a levy of Rs 2 crore from the general manager of Basishtha company.

Bandh support

Patna: Members of Pradesh Mukhiya Mahasangh on Tuesday organised street meetings across the state to solicit support of the people in favour of the bandh called by the association. The Mahasangh had earlier announced that the villages of the state would observe a bandh on January 8 in support of various demands including empowerment of panchayati raj institutions and rectification in the data of socio-economic survey.

Tributes

Patna: Tributes were paid to Urdu writer Khan Bahadur Nawab Syed Mohammed Shad Azimabadi on the occasion of his 37th death anniversary.

Sex racket

Patna: An alleged sex racket was busted at a cyber café in Patrakar Nagar. Acting on a tip-off, cops raided the café and arrested three men and two women. Many objectionable items were recovered.

CBI probe

Patna (PTI): The state government on Tuesday recommended for the second time a CBI probe into the kidnapping of a girl from Muzzafarpur in 2012. The central agency had reportedly refused to take up the case on the basis of the first recommendation made by the state government last year.

Post-mortem

Lakhisarai: The body of Mangala Prasad Singh of Varanasi was sent to Munger for autopsy. He was a government witness in a case in Purulia, Bengal, in which huge quantity of arms were dropped from a plane in 1995.
