Sodomy slur on school van driver

Patna: Residents of Rajiv Nagar Road number-8 area on Monday thrashed a middle-aged man, who works as a van driver for Don Bosco Academy, for allegedly trying to sodomise a student.

The man, identified as Kallu, is presently in police custody. On Saturday, the man allegedly took the student to the City Ghat area and tried to sodomise him. When the boy raised an alarm, Kallu stopped and dropped the student back in his house, telling him not to disclose the incident to anybody. However, the boy narrated the incident to his mother, police said.

The family has lodged an FIR in connection with the incident and Kallu has been sent to jail after being produced in the court, the police said.

Rewards for BAU students

Bhagalpur: Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) would award gold medals to 13 former students at its first convocation function on Tuesday. Governor D.Y. Patil would preside over the function. Chief minister Nitish Kumar would be the chief guest at the event. Certificates would also be distributed among 452 passouts of five agricultural colleges, affiliated to BAU, Sabour.

Explosive haul

Motihari: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel recovered a pressure cooker containing improvised explosive device (IED) hidden beneath a small bridge between Krishnagara and Khan Pipra villages about 8km north of Madhuban on Monday.

Session

Patna: Governor D.Y. Patil would address the joint session of the state legislature on the opening day of the coming session starting February 14. The session would continue till February 22.

Convention

Patna: The state-level convention of Bihar Pradesh Panch Sarpanch Sangh would be held on February 7.

BJP membership

Patna: Around 1,000 lawyers of Patna High Court on Monday joined the BJP. The party sources said on Monday a special membership drive was launched by BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav.

Farmhouse

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a private farmhouse at Nagwa village in Vaishali district. Nitish praised the efforts of farm owner Ashish Patel for undertaking integrated farming.

Men in net

Patna: Eighteen middlemen active in the Patna DTO, collectorate and passport office, were nabbed. More than Rs 50, 000 cash and documents were recovered from their possession.

Body found

Patna: Police recovered the body of a youth, preparing for the competitive examinations, from a house in Shivpuri on Monday.

CNLU council

Patna: The state education department on Monday constituted the academic council of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU).

New charge

Patna: Civil surgeon Dr Lakhendra Prasad has been made the superintendent of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital.

Delegation

Patna: A delegation of the National Defence College arrived from Delhi on Monday.
