Newly-wed couple commit suicide

Kishanganj (PTI): A young couple committed suicide by consuming poison within hours of getting married at Bishanpur village in Kishanganj district, police said on Monday.

The couple got married in a temple on Sunday night, but allegedly drank poison fearing that their parents would not accept their inter-caste marriage. Their bodies were recovered a little distance away from the temple on Monday morning.

The police are investigating the case.

Ammo haul in Maoist raid

New Delhi (PTI): Security forces have seized 3,400kg ammonium nitrate — used for making improvised explosive devices and explosives — and detonators during an anti-Naxalite operation in Rohtas district. The operation was conducted by CRPF and state police in the Rudrapur forests of the district. “Numerous bags of ammonium nitrate were seized during an operation in the district. Also, 700 electronic detonators were seized,” a senior officer said. Thirteen large bundles of iron wire mesh were also seized during the operation, the official added.

Credit seminar

Patna: The credit potential assessed by Nabard for lending under priority sector during 2014-15 by banks was discussed during a state credit seminar organised on Monday. Chief secretary A.K. Sinha chaired the meeting. Nabard had estimated a total credit potential of Rs 53,853 crore for priority sectors in Bihar during 2014-15.

Condolence

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday mourned the death of Begum Ashgarun Nishan, the wife of former Speaker Ghulam Sarwar.

Legal cell

Patna: Dipak Verma of the BJP has been appointed the spokesperson of the party’s legal cell. The legal cell’s president, Awadhesh Kumar Pandey, announced it on Monday.

Certificates

Patna: Aashray Abhiyan on Monday distributed certificates among members who took part in an income generation training programme. They would be given financial assistance for purchasing sewing machines.

Protest

Patna: Members of Pradesh Mukhiya Mahasangh on Monday organised a protest programme at R-Block in support of their various demands, including autonomy to gram sabhas and effective implementation of the panchayati raj act.

Voter demand

Patna: Members of Co-operative Fisheries Federation would cast their votes in support of those who would work for the benefit of the fishermen community, said its president, Hrishikesh Kashyap, on Monday.

Dismissal

Patna: District magistrate N. Saravana Kumar on Monday dismissed two clerks Malay Kumar and Ajay Kumar Thakur posted in Patna collectorate’s district revenue cell. He said both were dismissed for misconduct, corrupt behaviour, indiscipline and dereliction of duty.
