Trader caught with gold bar
Madhubani: A man from Maharashtra was arrested on Monday with a gold bar weighing 1kg.
A police team, acting on a tip-off, caught the man during a search operation on a Darbhanga-bound private bus near Arer police station in Madhubani district. The man, identified as Suraj Ashok Shinde, was taking the gold bar to Maharashtra, where he owns a jewellery shop, from Jatahi in Nepal.
Superintendent of police Navin Chandra Jha confirmed that Shinde was taking the gold bar from Nepal.
Sources said Shinde confessed that this was the second time he was bringing gold bars from Nepal.
Ammo haul in forests
Gaya: Nawada police, during a combing operation on Sunday night, recovered a huge cache of ammunition and explosives from the Gaighat forests under the jurisdiction of Kauakok police station. Nawada superintendent of police Manavjit Singh Dhillon on Monday said the security personnel recovered seven electric detonators, two non-electric detonators, three improvised explosive devices, 12 gelatin sticks, 15 feet self-fuse wires, Naxalite uniforms, Naxalite literature and pamphlets. The pamphlets stated that police informers would be punished.
Theft cuffs
Siwan: Two persons were arrested on Monday in connection with the theft of Rs 55 lakh from the Guthani branch of Canara Bank on December 15, 2013. Superintendent of police Vivek Kumar said Afzal Bari, the mukhiya of Paschimi Guthani panchayat, and Anup Mishra from Sareya village under the jurisdiction of Guthani police station were arrested.
Police protest
Chhapra: The in-charge of Bheldi police station in town, Sri Charan Ram, was suspended by superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar for dereliction of duty. Villagers on Monday, however, staged a demonstration at the police station Ram’s support and demanded the suspension to be revoked.
Land dispute
Chhapra: At least six persons were injured on Monday in a quarrel over land dispute at Pipra village under the jurisdiction of Dighwara police station.
Mob ire on bus
Muzaffarpur: A mob torched a private bus near Gobarshahi village on National Highway 28 on Monday evening. The bus had earlier hit an autorickshaw killing a roadside tea vendor. The protestors blocked the road for an hour and set the bus on fire. Sadar police station officers reached the spot to pacify the people.
Salary march
Patna: Members of Bihar Rajya Arajkiya Prathmik Shikshak Mahasangh on Monday decided to take out a march on February 13 to register their protest against the alleged failure of the state government in paying salaries.
Suspension
Patna: The circle officer of Dulhin Bazaar in Patna district, Saket Bhushan Singh, has been put under suspension for four months. The agriculture department had put the official under suspension in November last year, but he had continued on the same post leading to the fresh order.
Attack at govt
Patna: Rohit Kumar Singh, the president of Swami Sahjanand Saraswati Samajik Nyaya Manch, and Lok Janshakti Party spokesperson on Monday accused the state government of betraying the Brahmarshi community.
