Shahabuddin murder charge

Siwan: Former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, serving life term in a murder case, and his son Osama have been named accused in another murder case.

One Rajesh Roshan, a resident of Siwan, was shot dead late on Monday night. Rajesh’s father Chandrakeshwar alias Chanda Babu lodged an FIR in which he named four persons, including Shahabuddin, and accused him of conspiring Rajesh’s murder. Siwan SP Vivek Kumar on Tuesday said a special team had been constituted and raids were being conducted to nab the accused.

Rajesh was one of the witnesses in a 2004 case in which his two brothers were allegedly murdered by Shahabuddin and his henchmen.

Crematorium directive

Patna: The high court on Tuesday expressed concern over the defunct and poorly maintained electric crematoriums in the state and directed the government to improve their condition. Hearing a PIL filed by Mukesh Ranjan and Sanjay Kumar, a division bench of Justice V. N. Sinha and Justice P.K. Jha directed the officials concerned to revive the four electric crematoriums in the state — three in Patna and one in Hajipur. The court also asked them to follow the type of crematoriums found in other states. The court observed that there should be basic facilities such as accommodation for the families of the deceased, drinking water and greenery around the crematoriums.

Rape complaint

Gopalganj: A woman of Basdeva village lodged a complaint before the court of chief judicial magistrate on Tuesday alleging that five persons, including a co-villager Langru Kushwaha, kidnapped and gang raped her in a remote field on June 7.

HC order

Patna: A high court division bench of Justice V.N. Sinha and Justice P.K. Jha on Tuesday sought a report from the state vigilance investigation bureau regarding Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) medicine scam. The court directed to submit all the previous reports concerning the scam on a petition filed by one Vikash Chandra alias Guddu Baba. Altogether, 15 people have been booked in the case, including former PMCH superintendent O.P. Choudhary, for financial irregularities in the purchase of medicines, chemicals, equipment and others

Inmate escapes

Gopalganj: An undertrial, Chittu Paswan, managed to escape from court premises when he was being taken to jail after being produced in the court of additional district judge 1 on Tuesday. He was in jail for the past year on charges of murder and attempt to murder.

Woman held

Gopalganj: One Shweta Devi, accused of murdering her husband Sudhir Srivastava on May 27, 2009, was arrested on Tuesday.

Indira Awas

Patna: The Congress on Tuesday criticised the Centre’s decision to curtail the number of Indira Awas dwellings for the state in the current fiscal year.

Awareness

Patna: Public Awareness for Healthful Approach for Living, a civil society organisation, held an awareness programme on Tuesday in which participants were briefed about the symptoms and treatment of dengue and Japanese encephalitis.
