Jawans in net for molestation
Patna: Three army jawans were arrested by the Government Railway Police for allegedly trying to molest a 25-year-old woman in the Old Delhi-Alipurduar Junction Sikkim Mahananda Express between Barauni and Khagaria railway stations on Tuesday. All the three soldiers from the Gorkha Regiment are posted in Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy inspector-general (railways) Lal Babu Yadav said the three — Deepchandra Roy, Pradip Thapa and H.K. Gurung — were arrested after a woman travelling in an air-conditioned coach complained that they tried to molest her in the running train. The woman was on her way to Jalpaiguri from Delhi. The DSP said the three soldiers took out khukhri (knives) when other passengers protested their act. The police later seized the khukhri from their possession. The trio were sent to jail after interrogation.
Gaya mayor loses chair
Gaya: Gaya Municipal Corporation mayor Vibha Devi has lost her chair in the voting after discussion on no-trust motion 30 councilors voted against her and she managed to bag support of only three councilors in her favour. One vote was declared invalid.
Altogether 34 of 53 councilors were present during the discussion on no-trust motion against the mayor brought by supporters of deputy mayor Akhauri Onkarnath alias Mohan Shrivastava.
Shot dead
Motihari: One Ganesh Yadav (35) belonging to Laxmipur Kachhariya Tola was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants on Wednesday afternoon. The killers targeted Ganesh while he was on way to Motihari. East Champaran superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar Singh said two persons had been arrested.

Patna: Bihar Education Project Council, which manages Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Schools, has decided to make the students of these schools aware of the changes that take place in body during adolescence. As part of this, teachers of these schools are being imparted training in menstrual health and hygiene, menstrual cycle and reproductive cycle, a council press note on Wednesday stated, adding that training was being imparted at 18 centres and would conclude on July 24.
Foodgrain data
Patna: The lifting of foodgrain by the state food and civil supplies corporation from the Food Corporation of India godowns has gained momentum. A corporation press note on Wednesday said that till July 21, a total of 1,17,857 lakh tonnes of foodgrain had been lifted. This is being done to clear the lifting backlog for the months of March to June.
Nitish jab
Patna: The BJP on Wednesday accused former chief minister Nitish Kumar of “shunning morality for the sake of power”. Party spokesperson Sanjay Singh Tiger said Nitish came to power on the plank of anti-Lalu Prasad politics and now he has joined hands with the same person.
BJP attack
Patna: BJP state unit president Mangal Pandey on Wednesday claimed that Nitish Kumar owed an explanation to the people of the state about his concept of “Brand Bihar”. Making a scathing attack on Kumar, Pandey asked whether Nitish meant friendship with those who brought bad name to the state as Brand Bihar.
Drugs stir
Patna: Members of Sarvajan Samaj, a social organisation, staged a protest on Wednesday demanding arrest of those involved in irregularities committed in purchase of equipment and medicines for government hospitals. The protesters also demanded removal of the state government on this issue.
