Court seeks rehab plans

Patna: The high court on Monday directed the central and state governments to submit plans for rehabilitation of trafficking victims. The court would have to be informed about the types of vocational training the state plans for the victims and how Bihar would appoint special police officers to tackle human trafficking.

The court was hearing an PIL filed by Apne Aap Women Worldwide Trust India and other organisations.

Earlier, the court had asked Bihar to place on record any policy, recognising human trafficking and the need to curb it, it had framed. The government filed a counter affidavit, stating the steps it has taken or proposes to take in the matter. It informed the court that anti-human trafficking committees have been constituted in each district.

The court on Monday directed the state to file a reply on when short-stay homes would be made functional in the districts.

Valuables lost in train loot

Gopalganj: Around 12 armed criminals looted valuables worth several lakhs from a Phulwaria passenger train on Sunday night. The train, which had started from Hajipur at 7.40pm, reached Hathwa station at 11pm when the criminals boarded the train. They fled with gold chains, cash and other valuables when the train reached Selarkala station in Gopalganj. An FIR was lodged with Thawe Government Railway Police on Monday.

Boys drown

Motihari (PTI): Two boys drowned in the Budhi Gandak river in East Champaran district on Monday. The boys, identified as Vivek Kumar (15) and Vikki Kumar (14) accidentally slipped into the water at Banarwa Ghat and drowned. The bodies were later fished out by divers and sent for post-mortem.

Project prod

Gaya: State development commissioner Shakti Kumar Negi on Monday reviewed the progress of development schemes in Gaya and Jehanabad districts related to water resources, road construction, agriculture, power and tourism. He told the officials present that the deadlines for the schemes would have to be met at any cost. Principal secretaries of the departments besides, the power secretary and district officials, attended the meeting held in Gaya collectorate’s conference hall.

Braille books

Patna: Bihar Education Project Council on Monday sent the first lot of Braille books for the students of Jehanabad-based Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ School. Rahul Singh, the director of the council, said the free books would be provided to children aged between six and 14.

Saran cop

Chhapra: Vinay Kumar has joined as the new Saran superintendent of police. He said his doors would always be open for the people and they didn’t need to wait till the weekly janata durbar to share their grievances with him.

Nursing council

Patna: The high court on Monday directed the government to fill posts of nominated members in the Bihar Nursing Registration Council. The order was passed by the division bench of Justice V.N. Sinha and Justice P.K. Jha. The bench directed the director-in-chief, health services, to apprise the court of by when the council would have the nominated members. Failing it, the director-in-chief would be held accountable.

Protest march

Patna: Members of Jankalyan Parishad took out a march on Monday protesting against the deteriorating law and order condition in the state.
