Athletes call off hunger strike

Patna: Bihar athletes, who were sitting on hunger strike and dharna at Moinul Haque stadium in protest against the Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) banning the state from participating in the 35thNational Games in Kerala, ended their strike on Monday.

The decision to end the hunger strike after arts, culture and youth minister Vinay Bihari assured the athletes of raising the issue with Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

BJP members stage protest

Patna: BJP MLAs on Mondaystaged dharna on the Assembly premises in protest against the non-appointment of the Opposition party member as the chairman of public accounts committee. Leader of Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav said the chairmanship still belongs to JDU ally RJD that speaks of the ill-intentions of the government.

Allegation

Gaya: A person on Monday levelled an allegation upon an intern of Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital for influencing their child towards another religion while living in their house as a tenant around four years ago. The health hub superintendent Sudhir Kumar Sinha said nothing like that could be established during the inquiry.

Condolences

Patna: Vaidehi Sharan Singh, a President's Medal awardee and former president of Bihar Police Associationt, passed away at 78 on Monday because of cardiac arrest at his Patna residence.

Appointment

Patna: The 87thannual general meeting of Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Mondayelected O.P. Shah unanimously as its president while Subhash Kumar Patwari and Madhukar Nath Bareria were elected as vice-presidents. Executive committee members for the term 2014-15 were also elected during the meeting.

Cowshed order

Patna: Patna district administration on Monday imposed Section 144 under Ramkrishna police station to prevent owners from re-opening their khatals in the area that were earlier removed
on the order of the Patna High Court. Section 144 will remain in force till further orders.

Salary meet

Patna: Contract teachers will hold parleys with the state government on the salary issue on Tuesday.

Mock drill

Patna: Police on Monday conducted a mock drill for around 30 minutes at the Patna airport in the wake of the terror attack in Bangalore. Patna senior superintendent of police Jitender Rana said the cops were alerted about an
IED being placed at the arrival lobby of the airport. Immediately, the police rushed to the spot.

Engineer attack

Patna: Bihar Engineering Services Association has attacked the govern-ment for sidelining the agriculture road map of the state. The association members have also criticised the state government for abolishing around 140 posts of engineers in the minor irrigation department.
