Panchayat gets tips from Japan 

Gaya: Bodhgaya nagar panchayat chairperson Priti Singh returned from her week-long visit to Japan on Saturday with plans for environment-friendly initiatives such as power generation from solid waste, direct flights between Japan and Gaya, and a ropeway to connect Gaya with Dhungeshwari, around 7km away. 

She told newspersons on Tuesday that she hopes to get an appointment with chief minister Nitish Kumar so that she can present proposals for the projects that will be implemented in a public-private partnership mode. “We have manpower and space in Bodhgaya, but we lack technology,” she said. “I have spoken to a power generation company and they are ready to take up the work.” 

The proposed projects are meant to keep Bodhgaya free of pollution and generate revenue for the nagar panchayat. 

 

Rights panel notice

Patna: The Bihar Human Rights Commission on Tuesday issued notice to managing director, South Bihar Power Distribution Company, to depute his nodal officer to appear before the panel on November 9 concerning injury to an electric mechanic working with the company, Diwali Kumar Chaudhary, on duty. The commission directed the official concerned to file reports, entailing compensation and medical assistance provided to the injured mechanic along with administrative action taken against the officer responsible for the incident. 

 

Banka projects

Banka: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday inaugurated the government polytechnic college building at Amraha in Banka district, constructed for Rs 41.5 crore. He laid the foundation stone for a water supply project for 200 habitations in the district estimated to cost Rs 77 crore. The project will provide treated drinking water in areas where groundwater is contaminated by fluoride. 

 

HC summons

Patna: The high court on Tuesday summoned principal secretary, health, R.K. Mahajan in a case related to the installation of CT scan and MRI machines in Bihar’s government medical colleges. The case will next be heard on October 27. 

 

Dialogue

Patna: AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna, in collaboration with the Gender Resource Centre and Women Development Corporation, on Tuesday organised a “Development dialogue on social transformation of Bihar through empowerment of the marginalised community: rhetoric or reality?” 

 

BSNL adalat

Patna: BSNL will hold a national lok adalat in the city on November 12 to address consumer complaints on faulty telephone bills.

Patna: An e-lobby, 24x7 customer service, was inaugurated in the city on Tuesday at Union Bank’s Saguna Mor branch.

Patna: An army recruitment rally will be organised at the Danapur Cantonment from November 12-23, said a note issued by the headquarter recruiting zone in Danapur on Tuesday.
