Counterfeit note smuggler caught
Patna (PTI): A directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) team on Wednesday arrested a smuggler with fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 10 lakh, from a bus on the Motihari-Muzaffarpur road, under Mehsi police station area of East Champaran district.
Acting on a tip off, the DRI sleuths intercepted the bus near Mehsi village and nabbed the smuggler, identified as Munna Alam (25), with the haul of fake notes in denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500, respectively, DRI officials said. The accused had arrived in Patna with the consignment by train, from Malda in West Bengal.
Alam confessed during interrogation that he worked for a gang involved in smuggling counterfeit currency notes. The gang's kingpin resides in Nepal, the officials said.
Officers roughed up
Bettiah: At least five cops, including the station house officer of Nautan police station, Yusuf Asnari, in West Champaran district, sustained injuries when an unruly mob attacked the police team in Dhumnagar village on Wednesday afternoon. The police had gone to remove an encroachment in the village. They had to open fire to disperse the mob. The injured officers have been hospitalised.
Poll notification
Patna: A division bench of Chief Justice L. Narasimha Reddy and Justice Sudhir Singh on Wednesday directed the election commission to come out with a fresh notification for the state legislative council elections scheduled in July. This notification is to modify the earlier one, which the commission had issued on June 11.
Court order
Patna: A division bench of Justice R.K Datta and Justice Anjana Mishra on Wednesday, directed the state government to address the defects, which have been found in the formation of the district registration authorities (DRA) - constituted in 12 out of 38 districts under the tenets of the Clinical Establishment Act.
Bomber arrested
Ara: Sachidanand Sharma alias Lambu Sharma, (25), the mastermind behind the bomb blast on Ara civil court premises on January 23, was arrested from Delhi's Maharana Pratap inter state bus terminus on Wednesday. Sharma had fled from judicial custody after the serial explosion.
Commission
Patna: The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the state government and the police in connection with a doctor's refusal to treat a boy bitten by a snake, which led to his death.
Tax exemption
Patna: The state government on Wednesday notified the Patna high court about the clause regarding 100 per cent exemption of luxury tax, under Bihar Industrial Incentive Policy, 2011. With the notification of the said clause, those who opened hotels in the beginning of 2011 in the state, need not pay tax.
Ignou admission
Patna: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), has launched an online admission system for the ongoing July 2015 admissions. A press release issued by the university on Wednesday stated that this would enable applicants to submit applications online.
Bharti claim
Patna: Congress state vice-president Ramchandra Bharti on Wednesday claimed that the Bihar BJP leaders were in a state of anxiety in the wake of a formidable UPA alliance.
