Judge denies bail in murder case
Chhapra: District and sessions judge Navneeti Pandey on Thursday denied bail to RJD MLA from Baniapur Kedar Singh in connection with the murder of JDU leader Upendra Singh's bodyguard in 2011.
The MLA had filed an anticipatory bail petition on Tuesday. Earlier, the anticipatory bail petition of Sudhir Singh, the nephew of the accused MLA, was also rejected.
The incident occurred at the Masrak block office during a meeting in which Upendra's bodyguard, Munna Singh, was shot dead by the accused. Upendra had alleged that his brother Sudhir had opened fire at the MLA's behest.
Firing arrest
Madhepura: Police nabbed Ram Kumar Yadav, a district board member, from a hotel on Wednesday evening. Ram was a named accused in a case related to RJD MLA Chandrashkehar being fired upon two months ago. Madhepura station house officer Manish Kumar said the hotel room was raided after the police got a tip-off about Ram's presence there. He is considered close to RJD Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav.
Condolences
Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of senior high court lawyer Sidheshwari Prasad Singh who died on Thursday. In his condolence message, according to an official press note, the chief minister said the death of the senior lawyer had done irreparable damage to Bihar.
Lions victory
Patna: Veena Gupta has been elected the vice-district governor of Lions Club. A statement issued by Lions Club of Patna president Diljit Khanna said Gupta got the post after a keenly contested election in which 500 members of the club took part.
