Chhapra, Feb. 9: Jai Prakash University will start a postgraduation course in Bhojpuri from the next academic session. Students will be able to enrol for the course from July.

A decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of the academic council of the university, chaired by vice-chancellor Ram Vinod Singh, yesterday evening.

Registrar Tapasvi Prasad Singh said the decision to start the postgraduation course in Bhojpuri has been taken to encourage students to pursue the subject.

“Now they (the students) will find more job opportunities, particularly in teaching the subject. Earlier, Bhojpuri was being taught at the graduation-level but students were not showing much interest in the course, as they could not go for masters in the language. From now onwards, students will be able to enrol for postgraduation in Bhojpuri and pursue PhD. They can begin their career as lecturers of Bhojpuri in different universities,” he said.

The move of introducing the postgraduation course has been welcomed by several Bhojpuri organisations.

The academic council also laid stress on starting job-oriented courses and as a first, the varsity has decided to begin a nurse-training course for girls.
