Patna: Talks will ensue about the distribution of Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha seats among the NDA allies after the BJP sends its proposal within a month, chief minister Nitish Kumar said on Monday.
"There is not much delay in seat sharing for the Lok Sabha polls," Nitish said. "Very soon their (the BJP's) proposal will come. I think it will take a month or half. It will come in three-four weeks."
The chief minister was speaking on the sidelines of his Lok Samvad (public interaction) programme at 1 Aney Marg when journalists asked him about the seat-sharing formula in the light of BJP president Amit Shah's visit to Patna last week. For the last couple of months, there have been statements from leaders of both the parties over seat-sharing, fuelling speculation that it may rock the alliance boat in Bihar.
"It was a formal meeting with Shah," Nitish said when asked about the visit. "He had come to address a BJP executive meeting here. We had breakfast and dinner together and discussed several issues. Since the JDU and the BJP have come together in Bihar, there was a separate meeting as well.
"There is nothing to be shared about the meeting between us," he added. "Besides, whatever that was to be told has been made public by him (Shah). Hence there is no need to give a separate statement on this."
This is the first time Nitish has spoken out on Lok Sabha tickets, and his words are expected to quell the speculation on seat sharing between the JDU and the BJP. However, Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP and Upendra Kushwaha's RLSP are also NDA allies, and seat sharing talks - whenever they happen - are not going to be smooth.
Of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, the BJP currently holds 22, the LJP has six, the RLSP three, the JDU two. The RJD has four, the Congress two and the NCP has one seat.
