Students keen on pursuing a BEd course can look forward to studying at Patna Training College.

The institute on Friday launched the one-year course. Students would be able to complete their degree at a cost of Rs 1,827, while other colleges charge around Rs 60,000 for a similar course.

Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University vice-chancellor Shamsuzzoha, who was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, advised teachers to adopt modern teaching methods. Shamsuzzoha said by adopting modern methods, teachers would be able to improve their skills.

Patna Training College principal Khagendra Kumar said: “The institute is one of the oldest training colleges in India and its alumni hold reputed positions in government institutions.” Kumar also stressed the need of opening more training colleges in the country. “More training colleges need to be opened.”

Veerayatan BEd College, Pawapuri, principal Radhakrishna Singh said: “There are 50 lakh teachers’ post vacant in the country, of which Bihar accounts for 3 lakh.”

Women’s Training College principal Jessie George Modi praised the institute for starting the course at a nominal fee.
