Patna, Sept. 24: Bashishtha Narayan Singh will continue as Bihar JDU president for a second consecutive full term.

Today was the last date for filing the nomination papers for the process at the party office and no candidate but Singh (69) turned up. He submitted the papers to Janardhan Prasad Singh, the returning officer and JDU state electoral officer, in the presence of senior leaders Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, Ram Nath Thakur, RCP Singh and Uday Narayan Choudhary.

"I am happy that JDU has emerged as a very strong party," Singh said after filing the nomination. "Today JDU has 1.4 lakh active members across the state. Time and again, the party has proved its merit by organising several events."

Singhfirst became the state unit president in November 2010, replacing Vijay Kumar Choudhary mid-term on his induction into the Nitish Kumar government. The first time Singh was elected the Bihar president for a full term was in October 2013.

Now a Rajya Sabha member, Singh was designated student chancellor of Patna University during JP Movement.

The formal announcement of Singh's election will be made tomorrow when he will receive the certificate from the returning officer. On September 26, a state council meeting has been called at Rabindra Bhavan for which Nitish Kumar will be present.

On the JDU's strategy for the future, Singh said: "The party will become stronger and our workers will spread the seven resolves promised by our leader Nitishji among the people."
