New IIT campus sets July date

Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the new campus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Patna at Bihta by the end of June.

According to IIT, Patna, sources the construction work of IIT-Patna has been completed and the engineering institute, which is at present running from Software Technology Park of India premises since 2008, is going to shift at Bihta by July. 
IIT, Patna, registrar Subhash Pandey said: "The new academic session of IIT-Patna will start from Bihta campus as the construction is almost ready." 

The registrar also said they had heard that the Prime Minister was going to inaugurate the new campus at Bihta but, till now, the IIT administration had not received any official communication from the Centre. 

Land for women

Patna:  Oxfam India, Patna regional office, organised a state-level meeting of woman farmers on policy for homestead and agriculture land for the landless, in association with Pragati Gramin Vikas Samiti today at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna. Issues discussed were, recognition of women as farmers and homestead and agriculture land for the landless, especially for women. Vijoy Prakash, Agriculture Production Commissioner was the chief guest. Over 200 women farmers from 12 districts came to attend the meet. 

Loot

Gopalganj: Armed dacoits looted property from the house of Harun Ansari and also injured four family members. 

The injured have been referred to Gorakhpur. 

The dacoity was committed on Tuesday at Caurav.

Medals won

Patna: Bipin Raj, a student of Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna, medals in two different categories 
at the 26th Bihar State Shooting Championship held from June 11 to 14 at Siwan. Raj won silver in the open sight air 
rifle shooting while his team won gold in the peep sight air rifle shooting category.  

Charas seized

Bettiah: Nearly 37.8kg of charas was seized in a joint operation of SSB and a DRI, conducted on Wednesday morning in Basantpur village under Chanpatia police station. One Dhruv Yadav and his son Loriya Yadav of the said village were arrested in this connection, said the deputy commandant of SSB, Sanjay Kumar. Estimated cost of the contraband in international market is around Rs 3.78 cores. 

Rudy roughed up

Chhapra: Some persons allegedly tried to misbehave and manhandle Union skill development minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy at Parmanandpur on Tuesday. Two persons were taken into custody and later released on a bond.

BSNL plea

Chhapra: BSNL has asked its Patna Circle office to send sufficient stock of cables, telephone instruments and drop wires immediately, required for smooth conducting of assembly elections scheduled for September-October. 

Banker sentence

Patna: Special CBI judge Arunendra Singh on Wednesday sentenced former assistant manager of UCO bank (Fatehpur branch) Subodh Kumar Pandey to five years rigorous imprisonment in connection misappropriation of money.
