Patna: Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Friday claimed unity among non-BJP parties after successful experiment of SP and BSP in Uttar Pradesh.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad's son said the BJP was set to lose the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, as anger against them is spreading like a forest fire. "The BJP losing in Gorakhpur and Phulpur - considered the party's bastion - proves people are fed up with the BJP government at the Centre and in the state," Tejashwi told The Telegraph in his chamber in the Assembly. "I'm sure the BSP-SP experiment will continue and the Congress will add more flavour, winning all 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh."
The young leader claimed the situation was same in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharasthra and Bihar, too, where people are not happy with the BJP government. Citing Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's dinner, which Tejashwi and leaders from 20 non-BJP political parties attended, the young leader said it was his father's dream to unite all Opposition parties.
"It was my father who first took the initiative to from a Grand Alliance at the national level and we are going towards it in a very positive way, the way Sonia ji called all Opposition parties on one platform," Tejashwi said. "There are many parties - like the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, N. Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh and the Akali Dal in Punjab - that are not happy with the BJP," Tejashwi said.
He also claimed that the UPA will become stronger in the days to come because more and more political parties are upset with the BJP and the only option is to join the UPA and form a strong anti-BJP force before 2019. Tejashwi was of the opinion that the UPA and Left parties need to sit together and blur out the past. "All Opposition parties have to keep their egos aside to save India's federal structure and the Constitution, which is under serious threat from the Narendra Modi government," he said. "Congress president Rahul Gandhiji has to play a pivotal role in this. He has a huge responsibility. Electing the prime ministerial candidate is not the issue. Things should be sorted out like in the past when Manmohan Singh ji became prime minister though no name was announced earlier. Our first priority is to the save the nation from communal and fascist forces."
Tejashwi also said that Upendra Kushwaha would sooner or later come over to their side.
He said the BJP is pressuring its alliance partner but the day is not far when RLSP chief Kushwaha joins the RJD camp.
