Patna, Jan. 25: Restoring the lost glory of Patna University is on the top of priority list of Sudipto Adhikari, acting vice-chancellor of Patna University.
Adhikari, who officially joined office today, said that his focus would be on improving the academic atmosphere on the campus so that the university regains its past reputation.The university, in the past few months has witnessed a number of agitations staged by students as well as teachers for various demands.
This has not only hampered classes but also disturbed the atmosphere on the campus.
Taking about his plans for the varsity, Adhikari said: “Apart from introducing the semester system, I will see to it that more teachers are appointed for various subjects, including vocational studies.”
Patna University is facing a severe shortage of teachers with many departments running with just one lecturer.
The acting vice-chancellor also talked about the introduction of the semester system in the varsity.
The system will be introduced at post-graduate level from the next academic session.
The semester system would be divided into four semesters; similarly, the three-year course will have six semesters.
The acting vice-chancellors said: “The first semester in each postgraduate course will begin in July this year and continue till December. The next semester will start from January to June next year. The semester system will be on the pattern of Calcutta and other varsities in the country.”

The acting vice-chancellor of Jai Prakash University, Dinesh Prasad Sinha, took charge at the varsity today.
Talking about his priorities, Sinha said that he will work to regularise the academic session, conduct examinations and publish the results on time. He will set aside the orders passed by the former vice-chancellor and place a revised budget of the university before the senate. “With the help of each section, carrying out the duties becomes easy. I want the cooperation of all,” he said.
