Action on five cops

Patna (PTI): Five policemen, including two inspector-rank officers, were suspended on Monday for dereliction of duty as supporters of senior JDU leader Sharad Yadav had tried to enter the chief minister's 1 Aney Marg residence on Saturday waving belts and sticks, said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj.

Patna zone inspector-general of police N.H. Khan ordered the suspension based on the SSP's report.

Demand

Patna: Shatrughan Prasad Singh, the general secretary of Bihar Secondary School Teachers' Association, on Monday wrote a letter to Amir Subhani, principal secretary, general administration and home, to fulfil their demand for increasing facilities for them before Teachers' Day.

AIIMS charge

Patna: Retired army colonel Shyam Sundar Gupta (in pictureabove after taking charge) on Monday took charge as medical superintendent of AIIMS-Patna. He visited under-construction buildings of the hospital and said: "We would try our best to start the trauma wing by December."

Minister tour

Patna: Upendra Kushwaha, the Union minister of state for human resource development, will undertake a five-day visit to Bihar from Tuesday to address public meetings in Jandaha, Aurangabad, Hajipur, Buxar and Arwal.

Modi posers

Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday came up with eight questions for RJD chief Lalu Prasad to answer at his August 27 rally. The questions are related to Lalu's relation with leaders like Mohammad Shahabuddin and Raj Ballabh Yadav, apart from people engaged in illegal sand mining.

Drive

Patna: Sixteen vehicles loaded with relief material were flagged off from the BJP office in Patna on Monday for the flood-affected areas.
