Two motorcycle borne criminals looted Rs 20 lakh from an accountant at gunpoint near Keutsa Chowk on Wednesday.
Pankaj Kumar Singh, the victim, is a resident of Gaighat block in the district.
Deputy superintendent of police (east) Mustafique Ahmad said the incident was under investigation after the victim filed a complaint with the police .
Pankaj said he had withdrawn money from a bank in Benibad along NH-57 Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga roadand was returning on his bike when two men on motorbikes stopped him near Keutsa Chowk and asked him to give them the money.
" The criminals pointed the gun at me and asked me to hand over the cash," he said. "I was flabbergasted and scared. They slapped me thrice and then snatched the bag with the money."
The money was supposed to be disbursed among National Old Age Pension, Laxmi Bai Pension and National Widow Pension beneficiaries.
Sources in the police said they were quizzing Sharma to catch the criminals at the earliest.
