Patna, Oct. 27: Five persons, including Bihar police service officers, were arrested on corruption charges from Jainagar in Madhubani on Thursday.
Acting on a complaint lodged by a transporter, a team of vigilance officials conducted a raid at the official residences of Jainagar sub-divisional officer Ghulam Mustafa Ansari and deputy superintendent of police Chandan Puri.
The team also recovered Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash from the possession of the SDO and the DSP, respectively. The DSP's bodyguard, Pramod Kumar Dubey, and the SDO's orderly Baidyanath Yadav were also taken into custody.
Vigilance Bureau deputy inspector-general Sudhir Kumar said the arrested were being brought to Patna for interrogation. They would be produced before the special court in Patna on Friday. Pawan Yadav, an office-bearer of Jainagar unit of Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was also arrested during the operation, for abetment of crime. A bureau official said the transporter had lodged a complaint with the bureau on October 3, alleging the SDO and the DSP were demanding bribe in lieu of transportation of goods from Jainagar to Nepal.
In another operation, a circle officer, Rakesh Kumar, was arrested from Bhojpur for accepting Rs 15,000 as bribe.
