Siwan, April 18: A man and his wife were awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment for poisoning their daughter-in-law for dowry.

Siwan fasttrack court-2 judge Vinay Kumar today sent Ashok Singh and Sushila Devi to jail for 10 years and slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 each. In case the two convicts fail to deposit the fine, the imprisonment duration would be extended by another year. Three other accused —Vikrama Mahto, Durga Mahto and Shivnath Mahto — were acquitted by the court for want of evidence.

The victim, Srikanti Devi, was poisoned on February 25, 2007 at Tyotha village under Maharajganj police station.
