Bishop George Mission School celebrated Enigma, its annual day, at EZCC recently with a host of colourful performances. Students danced to songs such as Hey ganaraya, A Beautiful Day, Chham chham, Hanikarak bapu, Chhata dhoro hey deora and more. Two plays, Tenali Rama and Merchant of Venice, were staged. Colourful drill and karate performances kept the audience entertained.

Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School, Barrackpore, celebrated its Founder's Day with an initiative titled Operation Hope for the underprivileged. Sister Mary Prema, the superior-general of the Missionaries of Charity, was the chief guest at the event. “Operation Hope is a great step towards making people believe in humanity. We, the students, are also learning to help others and do our bit for society,” said Lovitoli Sumi, a Class XI student of the school.

Innovation and creativity stole the show at the CBSE Regional Science Exhibition, hosted by Apeejay School, Salt Lake. Students from schools in the city and across the state showcased models on smart city, water-borne disease, bio-gas plant and more.

Edna Philonena Gasper, the founder of St Augustine’s Day Schools, Shyamnagar, Budge Budge, Barrackpore and Calcutta, received the Mother Teresa International Award 2018 at a programme at EZCC recently. “I feel extremely grateful and humbled on being honoured. We have been successful in building four schools over the past 43 years. The schools have grown from tiny seeds to big trees and this gives me great joy and happiness,” she said.
