Boys in action during the 4th Alsoc West Bengal Inter-school Karate Championship 2018, presented by St Xavier's School Old Boys Association and partnered by The Telegraph, at the St Xavier's Collegiate School Primary Section Grounds on Sunday. Around 1,500 boys and girls from more than 100 schools from across Bengal took part in the tournament. There were seven age-based categories in individual kata and 10 weight-based categories for boys and nine for girls in individual kumite. The host school bagged the champion's trophy while DPS Newtown was runner-up.
National High School for Boys and Salt Lake Shiksha Sadan were joint third. Japanese consul general in Calcutta Masayuki Taga was the chief guest on the occasion. "Karate is now an Olympic game. Our aim is to raise talents and produce some young karatekas who will win medals for India at the Olympics," said Premjit Sen (in suit, facing camera), the president of Karate Association of Bengal and also the chief judge of the tournament.
