A woman in her 30s has alleged that she was kidnapped in a car near EM Bypass and gangraped by two men early on Tuesday morning.

The woman who had started living at an old age home not far from Bypass with her mother last week had apparently fled the facility early on Tuesday morning, a police officer said.

The woman has told the police that she was taken to an undisclosed location and raped. “Then, she was abandoned in Sonarpur where some women gave her clothes and money to purchase a train ticket,” a police source quoted her as saying.

“A train ticket for Ballygunge has been found in her possession. From Ballygunge station, she walked to the house of her mother’s sister on Tuesday morning. Her aunt informed the old age home that she had been found,” said an officer connected with the probe.

The family later lodged a complaint with the police station under whose jurisdiction the old age home is situated. The victim was taken to a government hospital for medical examination.

According to the statement of officials at the old age home, the woman was last seen loitering outside her room around 1am on Tuesday. “The security guard then fell asleep. When he woke up at 3am, he found the grille gate open and the woman missing,” the owner of the old age home said on Wednesday.

He added that a search had been launched for her, but she couldn’t be located. Later, the home lodged a missing diary with the police.

The owner added that the woman was mentally challenged, but the police said the home had failed to produce any medical document to that effect.

The police officer said it was yet to be found out if the grille gate had been broken open or opened with keys.

Officers of the detective department are examining CCTV cameras around the area from where the woman was allegedly kidnapped.

“We are not in a position to divulge more details of the case,” said a senior officer at Lalbazar. Based on the victim’s complaint, a case of abduction and rape has been started against unidentified persons.

In 2016, a minor footpath dweller at Dalhousie was kidnapped in an app cab, raped and killed. Her body was found in a canal near Tiljala the same day after the arrest of the accused driver who was tracked down with the help of CCTV cameras in central Calcutta.
