Chinsurah, Oct. 4: The officer-in-charge of Uttarpara police station, Debasish Chakraborty, was suspended today for his alleged nexus with a local crime lord.

Hooghly superintendent of police Ajay Kumar said: ?There were specific complaints against him. He had close contact with a most-wanted criminal.? Chakraborty, it was alleged, frequently spoke over his mobile phone with don Ramesh Mahato.

During his stint as OC of Bhadreswar police station, it was adjudged best in the state.
