Tradition takes tech leap

The website of Desh magazine - www.desh.co.in - was launched on Friday by writer Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay and actor-director Debshankar Halder. "The website, which will have write-ups on current affairs, sports, science, culture, books and more, will be independent of our fortnightly magazine," said Harsha Dutta, the editor of Desh, an ABP Group publication. "The website (a screenshot in picture left) can be browsed free. However, the content of our fortnightly magazine can only be accessed by subscribers." Mukhopadhyay, who described himself as someone who loved to keep pace with the changing times, welcomed the website. "The launch of the website is a step in the right direction," said Mukhopadhyay, who has been writing for the 84-year-old magazine for as long as 50 years. "From now there will be Desh the magazine and Desh the website. And the competition between them will only enrich us." Halder recounted his younger days, when someone flaunting a copy of Desh was bound to draw a second look from a girl. "I hope the launch of the website would help bring the magazine closer to my son's generation." Picture by Bishwarup Dutta
