Gilded for gold
With the likes of the late Bikash Bhattacharjee, Manu Parekh and Somnath Hore among its members, the Society of Contemporary Artists has been a major force in charting the course that contemporary Indian art has taken. The Society celebrates its golden jubilee with the ongoing 50th Anniversary Celebrations: Sculpture Show of Society of Contemporary Artists, an exhibition where each of its 22 members will showcase one work. On display are 46 sculptures that includes contributions by its present members, along with one by Swapan Kumar Das, who recently passed away. The show is a veritable journey back in time and forward, a deja vu and a future-vision all in one, as the artists, all masters of their craft, join in to recreate the magic they started 50 years ago.
