Classical symphony
A youth orchestra education programme introduced in this country by The Vienna University Orchestra, India Youth Orchestra is committed to training new musicians for building a pan-Indian performing orchestra. Its students are exposed to masterpieces of Western symphonic literature, at the same time learning teamwork, coordination and group dynamics. This evening, members of Indian Youth Orchestra present a Western classical concert, to be conducted by Vijay Upadhyaya (picture left). The first part of the programme features compositions by Franz Schubert (string quartet in G minor D.173; first movement: Allegro con brio), Joseph Haydn (string quartet in C major “The Bird” Op.33 Nr.3 Hob.III:39; fourth movement: Finale, Rondo, Presto), Viennese dance music from the 19th century, Edward Elgar (serenade for strings in E minor Op 20; Allegro Piacevole, Larghetto, Allegretto); Benjamin Britten (simple symphony in D minor Op 4; Allegro Ritmico, Playful Pizzicato, Sentimental Sarabande, Frolicsome Finale). To be performed after the intermission are compositions by Antonio Vivaldi (concerto in A minor Op3 No.8; Allegro, Larghetto, Allegro), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (sernade for strings in C major Op 48; third movement: Elegie: Larghetto elegiaco) and Antonin Dvorak (serenade for strings in E major Op 22; first movement: Moderato, second movement: Tempo di Valse).

WORKSHOP
