Tagore songs in translation
Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR, Calcutta, Italian Embassy Cultural Institute, India and Alain Danielou Foundation, Italy host Tagore Songs of Love and Devotion, translated into English and specially transcribed for the piano by Alain Danielou. Italian vocalist Dr Francesca Cassio will render the repertoire of six songs selected for this evening’s performance: Hey nuton, Tomar holo shuru, Gagane gagane, Hingshaye unmatto prithibi, Gram chhara oei rangamatir path and Kharo bayu boye bege. She will be accompanied on the piano by noted Italian pianist Maestro Ugo Bonessi. A few songs, like Jodi prem, Dinguli mor sonar khnachaye and Somukhe shanti parabar will be rendered in the original by Dr Reba Som, who will also introduce the programme.
