Philosophy and romanticism

Philosophy and romanticism
Rabindranath Tagore and Jibanananda Das have lived almost at the same time in the same geographical territory. However, their relation and interaction remains largely unexplored. Jibanananda had sent an early book of poems to Tagore for review and opinion. Tagore had described his work as ‘picturesque’ but ‘pessimistic’. Jibanananda consciously wanted to avoid Tagore style of writing and the two poets belonged to completely different worlds of imagination. Still, it is commonly known that Jibanananda wished to hear Tagore songs towards the end of his life. Rabindranath Ebong Jibanananda, this evening’s programme of poetry and songs is an attempt to study and uncover the strange and subtle undercurrents that existed between the two. Suchhanda Ghosh and Kamalini Mukhopadhyay will render Tagore songs and Sovan Sundar Basu will recite from Jibanananda Das’ poems. Concept and script: Dr Sanjay Ghosh. Hosted by Institute of Allergic & Immunologic Skin Diseases of Calcutta.

Event: A programme of Tagore songs and poems of Jibanananda Das When: Today at 6.30 pm Where: Rotary Sadan, 94/2 Jawaharlal Nehru Road
