October 19 at Rabindra Sadan; 6 pm: All India Radio presents its annual Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan. The artistes for the evening are Pandit Ramnarayan (sarangi), Pandit Dalchand Sharma (pakhawaj) and T.N. Seshagopalan (Carnatic vocal).

Till October 20 at Chitrakoot Art Gallery; 3 pm - 8 pm: Chintamoni Kar — A Retrospective (1934-1960). Featuring oil paintings, Bengal School works and drawings. Till November 10 at Galerie La Mere, 3 Regent Park; 4 pm - 7 pm: An exhibition of drawings, paintings and sculptures on Durga by eminent artists. Till October 23 at Academy of Fine Arts, South Gallery; 3 pm - 8 pm: An exhibition of water colours by Hemanta Sur. October 24 - 31 at Academy of Fine Arts; 3 pm - 8 pm: Chhayapath, Calcutta will hold its ninth international salon of photography. Eminent photographer Benu Sen will inaugurate the salon on October 24 at 5 pm.

October 23 & 24 at Uttam Mancha; 2.30 pm: Cine Central, Calcutta presents a Cuban Film Session. Oct. 23: The Teacher (dir: Octavio Cortazar) and Too Afraid of Life (dir: Juan Carlos Tabio). Oct. 24: My Heart is that Land (dir: C.R. Diego) and The Belle of the Alhambra (dir: Enrique Pineda Barnet). October 23 & 24 at Uttam Mancha; 6.15 pm: Cine Central, Calcutta presents a Tunisian Film Session. Oct. 23: Le Festin (short) (dir: Mohamed Damak) and Les Silences Du Palais (dir: Moufida Tlatli). Oct. 24: L’Enfant Quivoulait La Mer (short) (dir: Khaled Barasoui) and Siestes Grednadine (dir: Mahamoud Ben Mahmoud).

FACE-TO-FACE

October 21 at Nehru Children’s Museum; 6 pm: A face-to-face with Mrinal Sen where the director will speak on his latest film, Aamaar Bhuban. Organised by Cine Central, Calcutta.

IN MEMORIAM

October 22 at Srijan rooftop, 176 Sarat Bose Road; 6.15 pm: Srijan remembers poet Jibanananda Das on his death anniversary through an evening of his works. Speakers: Dr Bhumendra Guha Roy, Joy Goswami, Samarendra Sengupta and Shanu Lahiri. Translators and recitors of River Dhansiri: Ananda Lal, Basant Rungta, Chitralekha Basu and Susheel Gupta. Also, poems sung and danced to by Chandreyee (vocal), Sharmila Mukherjee (dance), Shiladitya Roy (recitation) and Baloo (music). Anchor: Krishna Sen.
