An innovative aesthetic endeavour, In Search of a Context, the ongoing art show by eminent contemporary artists, tries to explore and discover the relation of art to its setting of time, place, social and historical moorings. In other words, it is about the impact of context on visual language as a whole, on both its form and content. Through an intensive workshop, 17 participating artists, who cut across disciplines and the urban and rural divide, have attempted to recontextualise some selected artworks created within a span of the last 200 years. This show has on dislay the results of their efforts. The chosen artworks include paintings, sculptures, drawings, collage, film and video. The artists’ exercise has resulted in unique visual renderings and installations, presenting exciting new comments on and a fresh engagement with art. Featuring works of Samir Aich, Sumitro Basak, Jogen Chowdhury, Partha Pratim Deb, Meera Devidayal, Early Bengal School, Binode Behari Mukherjee, Satyajit Roy, Shakila, Shuvaprasanna, Arpita Singh, J.
