Musical invocation to winter As the city readies itself to play host to a series of music concerts this season, Winterlude, this evening’s one-of-a-kind concerto promises to delight lovers of pure Western classical music. A fund-raising event, hosted by the Calcutta School of Music, it features a cellist-pianist duo from South Africa who will be performing together with the members of Calcutta Chamber Orchestra. Berthine van Schoor is one of the finest cellists in South Africa. One of the leading chamber musicians and vocal accompanists in South Africa, Albie van Schalkwyk has established himself as performer in a number of fields over the past 30 years. Accompanying them will be opera singer Hanna ven Niekerk, a well-known performer of a wide range of art songs in that country. They will perform Mozart’s piano concerto with orchestra in C Major, KV 415 (moderato, adagio and allegro monto) and J.Haydn’s violincello concerto with orchestra in C major, along with other well-known compositions.
