Tribute to a legend
West Bengal State Music Academy and the ministry of information and culture, West Bengal, in association with West Bengal Dance Group Federation, host Uday Shankar Dance Festival 2005, as part of the birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary dancer. The festival commences with a colourful procession this afternoon at 1.30 from Golf Club Road to Rabindra Sadan. A week-long affair, it comprises contemporary, classical (Bharat Natyam, Kathak, Odissi, Mohiniattam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Kathakali) and folk (including chhau and garba) dance performances by both renowned and budding artistes. After a ceremonial inauguration at 5.15 pm, this evening?s programme features presentations by Mahua Mukhopadhyay (gaudiya), Madhumita Pal (chhau), Nandini Sinha (kathak) and a choreographic rendition by Ananda Shankar Centre for Performing Arts, under Tanushree Shankar?s direction.
