Winter blossoms

The Telegraph Online Published 07.01.11, 12:00 AM
Winter blossoms
Flowers not only make the world beautiful and colourful, they also bring smiles to our faces. Wherever they are, flowers create a lasting impression; they also purify the air as well as combat climate change. With the winter nip clearly in the air, the city gets ready to welcome The Agri-Horticultural Society of India’s much anticipated annual event, Winter Flower Show 2011. Promising to showcase the possibilities of beautifying interiors and exteriors with special winter flowers, this year’s show will have on display roses, dahlias, chrysanthemums, gladioli, as well as marigolds and perennial flowering plants. Taking pride of place this year are chrysanthemums in all their radiant beauty. A special sit-and-draw competition for schoolchildren is on the cards tomorrow at 10 am on the main lawn. Special features of the exhibition include floral arrangements by Pushpa Bitan Friendship Society at the HB Kanoi Hall annex, and All India Photographic Salon on wildlife and botany, jointly with Photographic Association of Bengal at RPG Hall. To be inaugurated by Arabindo Maharaj (secretary, Aadaitya Ashram, Ramakrishna Mission) and Md. Mustafizur Rahman (Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh) today at 3 pm.
