Classical concord
Shakhri Begum belonged to a great musical lineage having its roots in the small town of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. With her early demise, her infant son was left to the care of her uncle, the legendary Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan. The child grew up to become one of the leading stars of Indian classical vocal music, Ustad Rashid Khan. The Shakhri Begum Memorial Trust, set up by the Ustad in memory of his mother, strives to perpetuate Indian classical music and its rich traditions. This evening, the Trust, in association with Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Gol Park, present santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Ustad Rashid Khan in concert. They will be accompanied by Pandit Ananda Gopal Bandyopadhyay and Jyoti Goho.
