A familiar name in the city’s classical music circuit, Rasikhapriya has consistently given Calcuttans the opportunity to experience some of the best of Carnatic classical music. In celebration of its 19th anniversary, it hosts a six-day festival that promises to provide pure listening pleasure to lovers of this genre of music. The festival, open to all, features daily performances by exponents in their respective streams. To be inaugurated today at 6.10pm by N. Murali, president of The Music Academy, it will commence with an invocation by Calcutta K. Srividya. The inaugural evening’s performance features a vocal recital by Nithyashree Mahadevan at 6.45pm.

AUDITION

INTERACTIVE SESSION

November 1 at Oxford Bookstore, 17 Park Street; 6.30pm: Oxford Bookstore, Calcutta and Zubaan Books present an interactive session on The Red Road — A literary fiction highlighting the unrest and rebellion in Bengal during 1960-1970s — by Tina Biswas. Chief guest: Paromita Chakravarti, lecturer, department of English, Jadavpur University. The author will be in conversation with the chief guest on the causes of rebellion and its aftermath.

COMPETITION

Till January 31 at British Council: International writing competition in association with Sampad invites entries in the form of poetry, short stories or reportage on the theme of ‘Inspired by Tagore’.
