Youth rescued from bank

Police on Thursday rescued a youth who was assaulted and kept confined for six hours in a private bank on Park Street. A bank employee has been arrested. Police said Raj Pal, 21, went to the bank to clear the dues of a credit card issued in his father?s name. ?His father died last month and the outstanding amount was Rs 30,000. Raj was confined in a room after he asked bank employees how much he would have to pay. They told him to ask his family to bring the money,? said a police officer.

American Center firing

The judgment in the American Center firing case will be delivered on April 26 by a special court in Presidency jail.ftab Ansari is the prime accused in the 2002 firing. Five policemen were killed and 15 injured in the firing.

I-T ombudsman

The Centre has appointed Dhrubajyoti Chakraborty an ombudsman for the city to address public complaints and grievances related to income tax. Chakraborty retired as the chief commissioner of income tax, Calcutta, in 2003.

Brothel suicide

Bharati Nath, 45, a sex worker, committed suicide on Thursday morning by jumping from the second floor of her rented room on Rabindra Sarani.

Undertrial flees

Raju Chakraborty, 20, an undertrial in a murder case lodged in Dum Dum Central Jail, fled from Beleghata ID Hospital on Thursday. He was hospitalised in the morning.

Murder arrest

The nephew and help of a driver found murdered in a truck at Barasat on Saturday was arrested on Thursday.
