Four held for robbery

Four of the eight men who allegedly robbed over Rs 2.5 lakh at gunpoint from a bank in Jagatballavpur on August 11 were arrested in Howrah and Calcutta on Sunday. They were produced before the Howrah chief judicial magistrate on Monday. Barun Maji was remanded in CID custody for 11 days. Mohammad Kamal Ahmed, Mohammad Abdul and Mannan Mullick will have to undergo an identification parade. Barun is the brother of Arun Maji, one of the bank directors.

Zoo panel

A seven-member committee will replace the 15-member committee that supervises the functioning of Alipore zoo. The new panel, to be headed by chief secretary Ashok Mohan Chakrabarti, will also look after the transfer of the zoo to Sonarpur and the functioning of Darjeeling zoo. The other members are the forest secretary, two representatives of NGOs, two wildlife experts and a forest official.

Airport arrest

A Sri Lankan national was arrested at Calcutta airport on Monday evening on the charge of travelling with forged documents. Ratnam Nihsalan, 33, was to take a GMG Airline flight to Dhaka and fly to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur from there.

Sector V site

The website of Naba Diganta Industrial Township Authority (www.ndita.org), the administrative authority of Sector V, was launched on Monday by state urban development minister Asok Bhattacharya. The website will contain information on trade licence, property tax, building plan and tenders. Businessmen can file a complaint or leave suggestions on the website.

Man dead

Ganesh Chandra Mondal, a 25-year-old domestic help, was found hanging on the ground floor of the Sitaram Ghosh Street house where he worked on Monday morning

Money found

Two Shri Shikshayatan College students found an envelope containing Rs 7,000 on the platform of Esplanade Metro station on Monday and deposited it at New Market police station.

The Kalyani Ladies’ Special train will start plying till Sealdah from August 26.
