Travel lounge Three injured Death

A business class lounge — Travel Lounge — was inaugurated in the security hold area of the domestic wing of Calcutta airport’s new terminal on Monday. Spread over an area of 230sq m, the lounge has a seating capacity of 110.

Three injured

Three men were injured in two accidents on Sunday. In the first incident, a motorcycle was knocked down by a vehicle near Captain Fishery on the EM Bypass under Pragati Maidan police station at 10pm on Sunday. The rider, Kaushik Sarkel, 38, from Sonarpur, was admitted to Medica Superspecialty Hospital. In the second incident, two bikers were injured after their vehicles collided at Chit Kalikapaur under Anandapur police station. Avijit Patra, 18, and Avijit Das, 29, were admitted to RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences.

Death

Ajit Kumar Banerjee, a pioneer in forest management in India, died at his residence in Calcutta on Saturday. He had received the J. Paul Getty Award for Conservation in 1990s for Arabari Project in West Midnapore. He subsequently worked for the World Bank in Washington DC and was part of several national and international teams dealing with deforestation. He had also served as the national trustee of the WWF. Banerjee had written several books on forests, novels and short stories. He is survived by wife and son.
