Girish Park: Metro services were disrupted for close to an hour on Thursday afternoon after a man jumped in front of a Dum Dum-bound train at Girish Park station.

The driver hit the brakes but by the time the train stopped, two coaches had run over the man. The 26-year-old survived with serious injuries.

Power supply to the tracks was cut off and Railway Police Force and Metro staff jumped on the tracks with torches. They found the man lying under the train, bleeding but alive.

"He was pulled out without moving the train backward because that could have been more dangerous," said a Metro official.

He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Metro ran a truncated service between Maidan and Kavi Subhash stations till normal services resumed around 4.13pm.
