Garfa: A final-year BCom student of a south Calcutta college was found hanging in his house along the Bypass early on Wednesday.

Police said Rick Bose, 21, had used the cable of his laptop charger to hang himself from a fan in his room.

"His family members were the first to spot him around 1.10am. They brought him down with the help of neighbours," an officer of Garfa police station said.

Bose was declared dead at MR Bangur Hospital.

A preliminary inquiry has ruled out foul play, the officer said. The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case of unnatural death started, he said.

Bose's brother is working in Germany and his family wanted him to be successful, an officer who has spoken with the family said. "His exam was to begin on April 18. It appears he was unable to cope with the pressure of studies."

"He was good in extracurricular activities and did well in the past four semesters," the principal of his college said.
